Buttercream cakes are hot right now – the Royal wedding cake was roughly frosted in blush buttercream and dressed with billowing pink peonies, but rustic is not the only option. Buttercream is so versatile that the tiniest of embroidery stitches and even stained glass can be recreated with the latest piping techniques. Emma is one of only a handful of cake designers in the UK that have trained to work with buttercream in this way, and has a unique style that is recognised around the world.
‘My cake journey began around 20 years ago, making novelty cakes for friends and family as a hobby while I worked as a business journalist. When I discovered the versatility of buttercream, I was hooked. It’s so delicious and I can create huge decorative cakes in a fraction of the time it would take to construct something similar out of fondant, a bonus for someone with little patience. This is why buttercream cakes are often surprisingly inexpensive.
‘I’ve been making buttercream wedding and celebration cakes professionally for four years now, and can’t believe it’s my job. To see a bride’s delight when she catches a glimpse of her cake is wonderful; so rewarding. I’ve written a blog about wedding cakes and some of the common questions people ask when they’re planning their big day. Such things are ‘how much will my wedding cake cost?’ or ‘How big should my wedding cake be?’ Hopefully it might help you with some of your decision making!
Whether you’re after a traditional or modern wedding cake Emma will be delighted to work with you to create your dream cake! Contact her with any questions you’ve got and she’ll be more than happy to see how she can help.
